Laiya Beach Resorts, San Juan Batangas

April 28, 2012

Are you looking for a summer get away beach resorts nearby Manila? The best places is in Laiya, San Juan Batangas! Around 2 to 3 hours travel by land from Manila you can reach this long shoreline of Laiya, San Juan Batangas. This is the usual destination in the South of Manila for Company or Barkada outings and team building activities. The most recent place I visited was Estrellas de Mendoza (you can visit them online at http://www.estrellasdemendoza.com) and I believe this is the current biggest hotel/resort on this stretch of Laiya. A Seven Floor Hotel-Building with First Class accommodations. I can rate this as a 3 star hotel (based on ambiance and room set-up) but needs further improvements on the facilities, services and foods. This place will surely be a prime spot destination in Laiya so I hope their Management will further upgrade and improve based on a Hotel Life – First Class Vacation Spot in Laiya!

About San Juan, Batangas:

San Juan was just a small village formerly called Bolbok (Nabulbok). Gradually, the village grew in population as well as in economic activities and soon became town headed by gobernadorcillo or municipal mayor. By virtue of a municipal resolution duly approved by the Philippine Legislature, the name Bolbok was changed in 1920’s and formerly adopted the name San Juan in honor of the patron Saint San Juan de Nepomuceno by which it has been known up to the present time.

The Municipality of San Juan, formerly a village of the town of Rosario, was officially recognized a separate Municipality in 1848. Considered as the 2nd largest municipality in the Province of Batangas, it has a total land area of 27,340 hectares predominantly devoted to Agriculture.

Strategically located in the southern most part of the Province of Batangas, the Municipality of San Juan can be considered as the south Eastern Gateway of the Province of Batangas as it connects with Daang Maharlika of the Philippines-Japan Friendship Highway, the main land transport route of the country extending up north to Metro Manila and down South to the Mindanao Islands. The location of the municipality at the southern tip, with the picturesque view of long white sandy beaches, coves and marine life cradled at the foot of mountains and hills makes the area suitable for all levels of tourism development. In consideration of this natural resource

Being bounded by Tayabas Bay on the east, the municipality has access to one of the fishing grounds of the region. The shorelines of the eastern barangays bordering on the said bay are rich inland fishponds, swamps and marshes which are haven of fishes and other foods. These also make the municipality a fishbowl on these parts of Batangas and Quezon province.

Only two and a half down drive from Manila a forested mountainous inland looks out over a 33 kilometers coastline of black and white sand beaches and diverse marine life.

Tourism in the Area:

Lambayok Festival
San Juan, Batangas, in turn holds an annual event to showcase the three major industries of the municipality – lambanog, palayok-making, along with the growing resort sector. Their festival promotes creativity, ingenuity, and hard work. The core theme of their presentation revolves round the lambanog, often called the poor man’s drink because of the abundance of coconut and the relatively cheap distillation process it goes through. The dance depict the popular “tagayan” – a tradition of simplicity handed down from one generation to the next. The float called Lambanugan was crafted from various materials from the coconut tree, and shows how and where lambanog is processed. Mangangarit are workers who climb the trees in the afternoon to prune the flowers and gather the sap in bamboo receptacles. In the morning, it is fermented to produce “tuba” which when distilled becomes lambanog. From a mere cottage industry, lambanog is gaining recognition and is now packaged in different flavors like mango, blueberry, bubble gum, and cinnamon among many others.

Mangrove Forest
See a thousand years old mangroves…(Check my pictures and you can see Giant Mangrove Trees!)
