Hooray! I am on a Paternity leave 🙂 This is a Seven (7) Days leave being granted for “Married” Filipino Fathers to assist their wife after birth delivery. However, I am on an on-call mode still and need to check mails, received calls from my boss for urgent matters, and catch up with work issues. I guess this is a work from home-leave, But that’s okay I am with my baby and doesnt need to rush home and trap on a rush hour traffic. Perhaps, it is my choice to be in this work-mode too.
For my kumpares, below is the Philippine law about Paternity Leave:
Republic Act No. 8187: otherwise known as the Paternity Leave Act of 1996 is enacted primarily for the purpose of giving the married male employee time to assist his wife during her delivery and in taking care of their newly born child, or give support to his wife if she has suffered a miscarriage. The Republic Act defines the term paternity leave and specifies that only married male employees may avail of the paternity leave benefits under its provisions, and that these benefits are available only for the first four (4) deliveries or miscarriages of the legitimate spouse with whom he is cohabiting. This law also imposes a penalty for violations of its provisions, and contains a non-diminution clause.
